Udacity launches world’s first Time Travel Nanodegree !!!
Udacity has announced their latest ambitious endeavor — The Time Travel Nanodegree! The first batch of students are being enrolled today.
“These are exciting times” says Sebastian Thrun, “we have conquered the land with our Self-Driving Car Nanodegree; the air and water with our Flying Cars Nanodegree; Time is the next frontier and today we are pioneering the Time Travel Nanodegree!”
But David Silver, the lead for the nanodegree was more cautious, “The Udacity time machines can travel only one way and so students who time travel will have to wait until the future catches up with them”
The good news is that Udacity has already sent two of their instructors (Aaron and Bork) as well as a few of the mentors to the future, knowing a very busy schedule.
Aaron Brown is there, in the future, making corrections on the materials that are yet to be developed.
Brok Bucholtz is also there, working on partnerships with companies that are not yet conceived in the present, but are major forces in the future.
“Udacity has three major innovations not seen in any of the current MOOC systems” says Thrun.
First, enrollment is automatic : As Udacity already knows who will enroll and graduate, there is no need for an application process. The potential students will receive an e-mail enrolling them, with a Udacity guarantee that they will complete the Time Travel Nanodegree on time. Even career placement is guaranteed, as Udacity can see and guide the students through the interview process, knowing how they would perform in the future.
Second, the mentorship is adaptive & proactive : Udacity has sent a few mentors to the future who are already looking at the mistakes the students will make and are ready to advise them at the appropriate time. They will, of course, let the students make the mistakes and then help the students to correct them so as not to interfere with the learning process.
Third, the degree can be accelerated and completed ahead of schedule in the future, now. While the normal time to graduate is 9 months, once the students have mastered the art of building a time machine, they can then travel to the future and do the studies thus completing the Nanodegree. “But this will involve time travel back and forth, a capability that is available only next year”, says David Silver.
When asked about leaving Aaron and Bork in the future, Thrun was misty; “I really want to be there with them, but unfortunately we still need to grow the company before we get to the future and so I am reluctantly staying here … I have promised them the biggest block party, when we reach there …”
All is not lost; David Silver has managed a very noisy audio line to the future, using Google’s Interplanetary System, for an occasional talk with Brok & Aaron. Our reporter was able to have a brief chat with Brok.
When asked about the future, Brok was very elusive. :
“Enjoy the California coast, Facebook, Taco Bell and Uber while they last”, and “Amazon Geriatrics has added surge pricing at Whole Foods when you are hungry”, were his cryptic words from a beach-side condo in North Pole, before the link to the future was cut off by eddy currents.
Udacity already has two gold partners and a planned service as a part of the Time Travel initiative.
- Time Travel Technologies : Danny Lange, VP Time Travel Technologies (a Unity subsidy, in the future) announced that they are working on a time portal in Unity, for time travel simulations. This will be ready by March 14, 2019 at 1:59:26 AM, Brok assures us from the future.
- UAP (Uber Accident Prevention) : Another surprising partner is Uber. Glenn Dasmalchi, VP at UAP (Uber Accident Prevention) was very futuristic but pragmatic at the same time. “Uber is making so many colossal mistakes that we need to be the in the future before future happens, to correct them. We have very limited ability to forecast, predict and execute; without time travel, our existence is questionable at best …”
- Voyage: Oliver Cameron, co-founder of Voyage, is planning on delivering time traveling taxicabs. “We could travel to next Friday night, have a party and travel back to last Monday!”, he says, with an eye to the near distant future.
One word of caution: Students in the first few batches should be free from any time sensitive commitments eg. getting married, plans of having babies, major surgeries and so forth. This is because of the one-way limitation of the Udacity time travel technology, which is being worked on as we speak.
